HOA Management - for better or worse

Many people hate homeowner associations. Why do they choose to live in one if they don't want to follow the rules? Others prefer to live in a community with a homeowner's association because they take pride in, not only their residence, but the community as a whole. I would not want my neighbor to have broken windows or sheets and flags hanging in them.

If you don't want to follow the rules, you should purchase a home where there is no Association and no Board of Directors. The restrictive covenants are part of the real estate closing. If you don't adhere to the rules and regulations the HOA Board can initiate hearings, fines and under some circumstances, foreclosure.

If you live in a homeowner association, follow the rules. Life will be easier. The HOA Board of Directors don't purposely "pick on you" but their fiduciary responsibility includes encouraging all homeowners to follow the CC&R's (Covenants, Conditions and Restrictions).
